Lime CRM Desktop Client compatibility with "New Outlook for Windows"

Microsoft is promoting a brand new Outlook client for Windows. This client is not compatible with the Lime CRM Desktop Client integrations, such as dragging and dropping email from Outlook to Lime CRM Desktop. Also local customizations, including VBA, require the COM-API provided exclusively by MS Outlook (Classic).

Both editions of MS Outlook can be installed and used in parallel.

Current distributions of MS Office no longer include MS Office (Classic) by default. Either MS Outlook (Classic) must be explicitly included or installed as a separate application.

New Outlook dosen't support creating equivalent workflows we offer in our current Outlook integration. Microsoft hasn't communicated if or when they will add the necessary APIs to do so. Old Outlook will be supported to at least 2029, so Lime CRM integrations will continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

We are working on new ways to handle Email integration and will communicate them when they are getting ready.

The Lime CRM Outlook add-in is not affected and remains functional.

  • Ensure MS Outlook (Classic) is installed for full compatibility with Lime CRM Desktop and existing customizations
  • Centralized distribution of MS Office within organizations must explicitly include MS Outlook (Classic)
  • Use Windows Run (Win+R) to check if MS Outlook (Classic) is installed by launching “outlook.exe”
  • Use Windows Run (Win+R) to check if new Outlook is installed by launching “olk.exe
