Lime CRM MCP Server (beta)

The Lime CRM MCP server lets AI assistants such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot work with the data in your Lime CRM application. Once it's connected, you can ask your AI assistant things like “Which deals are closing this month?” or “Summarize our latest activity with this customer” and get answers based on live data from Lime CRM.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other systems, and most of the larger AI tools support it.

The MCP server is currently in beta and only available for Lime CRM in the cloud. Please read the limitations below before you set it up.

The beta version is read only. Your AI assistant can search and read data in Lime CRM, but it can't create, update or delete anything.

The MCP server also acts as the API user that owns the API key, not as the person using the AI assistant. This has two consequences:

  • Object Access and Policies are applied for the API user, not for the individual. Everyone using the connection can see everything the API user can see, including data they normally don't have access to in Lime CRM.
  • Some AI tools need the API key to be configured by each person. Microsoft Copilot can be set up centrally by an administrator, while Claude requires each user to add the key themselves.

The MCP server is included in Lime CRM at no extra cost. Every person who uses Lime CRM through an AI assistant needs their own Lime CRM user license, the same as when they use Lime CRM directly.

The MCP server isn't enabled by default. Contact your Lime representative to have it enabled for your Lime CRM application.

Create a new user of type API and generate an API key for it. The steps are described in API Keys.

Since the AI assistant can see everything the API user can see, only add the API user to groups with access to data you're comfortable sharing with everyone who will use the connection. The MCP server only reads data, so the API user doesn't need any write permissions.

Treat the API key like a password. Store it somewhere safe and don't send it by email, Teams or other chat tools.

Add Lime CRM as a new MCP server in your AI assistant (some tools call this a connector or a custom tool) using these settings:

Setting Value
URL <your-api-url>/mcp
Authentication Header x-api-key with your API key

Authentication works the same way as for the Lime CRM REST APIs. The exact steps differ between AI tools, so check the documentation for the tool you're using.

We're working on a new version of the MCP server, planned for release before the end of 2026. It will:

  • support creating and updating data in Lime CRM
  • run as the actual user, so Object Access and Policies apply exactly as they do in Lime CRM, and no API keys need to be handed out
